NAKED AND
UNASHAMED
The Bible says that when God created us, He made us naked and unashamed. If God created us to celebrate our bodies, minds and spirits then why is shame so prevalent in the world today?
It’s not so easy to spot, but we can find shame’s insidious tendrils wrapped around our fears and propping up our pride. Shame pompously looks down upon us disappointedly during the times we miss our goals or when we fall from the
lofty expectations of others. What would happen if, instead of being ashamed, we would consistently choose to rest confidently in who God made us to be?
As Black women, we are often told to be strong and that we can take on the weight of the world, like there’s nothing that we cant’ bear. I’ve since decided, that as a Black woman, my value is not based on my capacity to carry heavy
issues, weighty responsibilities, or a bucketful of life’s problems. I’ve come to realize that God made me intrinsically valuable and extremely precious just as I am.
What would it feel like to take off the weight of trying to please others and simply be ourselves? What would it feel like to release the thought that we must belong to another person to be valuable? What would it feel like to
substitute shame for love and walk naked through the world knowing that God made you perfect, complete, and whole? How does that resonate with you?
