IT WAS THE BEST OF TIMES IT WAS THE WORST OF TIMES
A person once asked my thoughts about race relations in America. I responded, it’s complicated.
On the one hand there is an emerging awareness of implicit bias and prejudice and, on the other hand, is a cauldron brewing with deep seated anger and resentment.
We are living in polarizing times. The problem is that in between these extremes is a wake of victims consisting of those who have been
injured by the impacts of implicit bias, prejudice or by social injustice. Someone once said, “Can’t we all just get along?” If only it were that simple.
Sometimes the biggest resistance to positive change are the beliefs within our hearts. We just can’t easily shake them. For example, we just can’t easily shake off what slavery has done to the heart of our nation. Its lingering, invasive, belief that Black Americans and people of color are less valuable based solely on the color of their skin still persists today.
So how can we really change when we are often betrayed by our own hearts? Coaching the injured and reminding them that love trumps all is my commitment.
What does “putting in the work” for a better world look like for you? What difference could your “boots on the ground” contributions make towards building a bridge for a better
tomorrow? What time is it? The answer is up to you and me.
Love and blessings,
